Podcast Reflection

Welcome to the first post in our “Post a Day in May” campaign where we will either release a new post, tweet or podcast everyday this month. To start it off, I wanted to take a second and reflect on starting up a podcast. It has been an amazing journey but yet we still have a long way to go.

To the team that has made this all possible, and all the dedicated time both “on air”, as well as off, I wanted to thank you.  You continue to offer a diversity of knowledge and capabilities making us a unique local offering.

All of this has come with some growing pains, headaches, and not to mention, the late nights (yes 5 am does exist –it’s my bedtime (inside joke for the crew)). Trying to find the right medium to record in – one without echoes, drops, noise, or any other randomness that wreaks havoc on recordings has provedn difficult. Every time we get one problem straightened out another one crops up. We have tried Skype – no dice, too choppy, echoy (it is a word now). Go To Meeting – works well, a whole lot better than Skype, but at times we get un-editable noise in the recording making them useless.  We are going to try our hand at Google Hang out – will report on that once we try it. For those interested in starting a podcast be weary you will run into editing issues and may, like we have, fall behind on some of episodes while we struggle through correcting the problem. Two points of advice I would like to share: 1. record and store a few episodes before you go live so you have the time to work on ones that create problems 2.have a bunch of geeks handy – it helps to trouble shoot, provide alternatives, and keep the show on schedule (thanks again guys).

To our listeners, thanks for taking the time to hear us rant about our favorite subject; Information Security.  We want to make this the best local security podcast around and rely on you and your comments to help drive our topics. Interested in hearing something new just drop us a line and we will do our best to schedule it. For those that like reading a little bit more than listening, we will be delivering more content for you as well. Not only in the month of May but beyond that as well.

Thanks everyone,
